Class Descriptions from Last Year
Let us know what classes you would like to see in 2023.
Support Spindle Spinning
Learn how to start spinning on a support spindle! They look like sticks in bowls, but they are effective in spinning with the right set up. We’ll talk about: what is a support spindle, what to spin on them and how to get started.
Students should have some experience spinning whether spindle or wheel. Fiber will be provided to use in class. You are welcome to bring your own fine or short stapled fiber to try out too. Please bring your own spindles if you have them, a limited number spindles are available to use in class.
Natural Dyeing
Learn how to dye with natural dyes. This class will discuss and show colors from 20 different plants and demonstrate how to harness liquor from 6 plants and how to use mordants and assists. Indigo Madder and Osage Orange pots will be available.
Drop Spindle Spinning
Turn wool into yarn is this hands-on beginning spinning class. You will learn how to prepare the fiber, make a leader, and spin using a drop spindle. Once you have mastered the spindle you will have learned the steps needed for spinning on the spinning wheel: drafting out fibers, twisting the fiber into yarn, and winding up and storing the spun yarn.
Knitting a Headband
Knit your own headband. Learn how to cast on, do a knit stitch, cast off and sew the headband together from an instructor who has over 30 years of experience knitting and 6 years of teaching. Deborah has taught beginner classes, sock classes, two at a time, and toe up sock classes. Yarn and knitting needles supplied. Class is limited to 4 people.
